Carolina Contreras is an activist and social entrepreneur born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but grew up Somerville, Massachusetts. After graduating college with a double major in Peace and Justice Studies and French, she decided to return to her home country for just two months. This short trip turned into nearly 10 years and while living in Santo Domingo in 2011 Carolina created a Spanish speaking blog MissRizos.com, which is online platform that celebrates and educates women about afro-curly hair. In 2014 she turned her online space into a curly hair salon on the same street where enslaved Africans were once sold in DR. Carolina travels the world speaking about the importance of representation and the power of self-love. She’s been featured in the New York Times, Telemundo, Forbes, Univision, NPR, and more. She is now in the process of opening Miss Rizos Salon NYC.
