#LatinaBloggers Spread #RSVawareness for World Prematurity Day

As parents welcome new babies into the world, it’s a time full of excitement, joy, learning and new experiences. Most parents are able to bring their healthy newborn babies home from the hospital soon after birth, but parents of premature babies may not be so lucky, as preterm birth can come with complications, often requiring special medical attention.

Preemies often have specialized health needs and it is important to raise awareness of the increased risks that often come with premature birth.  45 #LatinaBloggers have pledged to help spread awareness about Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is a common seasonal virus that can affect preterm infants, who are born with undeveloped lungs and immune systems.  Preterm infants are at heightened risk for developing severe RSV disease, often requiring hospitalization.

In the time leading up to November 17—World Prematurity Day—#LatinaBloggers are hoping to educate parents of preemies so they are prepared to help protect their vulnerable babies.

#LatinaBloggers Take AT&T’s #ItCanWait No-Texting-While-Driving Pledge

Our society is becoming aware that texting and driving can be fatal but far too many people still ignore the risk.  AT&T has begun a movement called #ItCanWait which is geared towards making texting and driving as unacceptable as drinking and driving.


Since the movement was launched in 2009, more than 2 million no-texting-while-driving pledges have been logged through, social sites including Facebook, text-to-pledge and events.

We're working together with AT&T to help spread the word and have engaged a select group of #LatinaBloggers who want to work with us to encourage their readers to take the pledge. These bloggers are aware that texting while driving is involved in 100,000+ vehicle crashes each year, often causing injuries and deaths, and have decided to take the pledge themselves and join us in promoting this important movement.  Visit their blogs to read more!

#LatinaBloggers Connect and Share Tips for #RSVprotection

We all learned a great deal about RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) from our last campaign for World Prematurity Day. However, the risk of infection is also a concern for toddlers and school-aged children. Whether it's part-time or full-time, children who spend any amount of time in a daycare or school setting are at risk for contracting contagious germs and viruses, such as RSV. RSV is a common, seasonal virus - it can live on surfaces, like doorknobs, countertops, toys, and bedding for several hours and is often spread through touching, hugging and kissing. Children are constantly sharing toys and supplies, which in turn increases the risk of infection.


There is no treatment for RSV. However, there are many things one can do to help prevent its spread.  Forty #LatinaBloggers are sharing their prevention tips and personal experiences with RSV over the next two weeks. Latina Bloggers Connecting and Sharing With Kleenex

As we get ready for the holidays, we must not forget there's one more thing that creeps up this time of year - cold and flu season! It's important to keep our immune systems strong during this very busy time. However, if a cold or the flu gets the best of you or a loved one this season, the smallest gesture can certainly make a big difference. Latina Bloggers Connect with Coca-Cola and the Hispanic Scholarship Fund #DestapaSuFuturo

Coca-Cola has had an extraordinary relationship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund for more than 30 years and are committed to helping them meet their goal of having a college degree in every Latino household by the year 2025. Along with HSF, Coca-Cola wants to motivate people to get involved and help make a difference. We're extremely excited to collaborate with Coca-Cola to help spread the word about their latest initiative with Hispanic Scholarship Fund #DestapaSuFuturo. As a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, thousands of dollars in scholarships will be awarded to Latino students across America.

From now through October 31st, students can apply for a scholarship at by answering three thought-provoking essay questions. Students must reflect on how their heritage affects their career goals, the importance of education in their lives and their community service experiences.

The Neutrogena Wave for Change campaign is back with another awesome collaboration! The blogosphere will be buzzing over the next few weeks with stories about the importance of education and change, as Neutrogena continues its efforts to help rebuild the lives of kids in need.
