To close out the first full day of #WeAllGrow Summit 2018, attendees heard from four badass women about the power of storytelling. Presented by Red Bull Amaphiko, this keynote session focused on the importance of our past experiences and how they shape our future, as well as the need to use our voices to create change.

Lucy Flores, Carolina Rubio MacWrightRosa Clemente, and Paolo Mendoza bravely took the stage to share their journeys. While all women come from very different backgrounds, each have spent their lives harnessing their voices to drive impact. Through their individual activism, we left with the same message - we cannot sit ideally by and expect change. We need to be the powerhouses driving the change because we are strong and powerful enough to shape society. There is no time to waste because everything we need can be found inside ourselves.

Here are some of the most powerful quotes from the session.

Lucy Flores

Vice President of Public Affairs at mitú

Our stories matter. Our journeys matter. Our voices matter. They’re so powerful when we can connect our experiences and perspectives to something that is bigger than us.
— Lucy Flores
Every single one of you has an incredible story to tell.
— Lucy Flores

CAROLINA RUBIO MACWRIGHT

Brave days make us who we are, they build our lives and they especially define us.
— Carolina Rubio MacWright
Can you imagine the power we could bring if everyone in this room had a brave day together?

Why do we always learn about the history of our oppression but never the history of our resistance?
— Rosa Clemente
My faith always lies within the people - the warriors; the unapologetic black and brown sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming people; the working class; and the rebel rousers. My faith lies in knowing that we have a strong legacy, that we walk with our ancestors and that the future is my daughter.
— Rosa Clemente

Paola Mendoza

FILM DIRECTOR, ACTIVIST, AUTHOR & ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF THE WOMEN'S MARCH

Progress is not continuous. Nor is progress guaranteed. Progress has to be fought for.
— Paola Mendoza
If we vote out of a place of love - if we vote to protect our undocumented brothers and sisters - we will be saving this country from itself.
— Paola Mendoza
