Carolina Rubio MacWright was born in Bogota, Colombia, where she lived until age 20, when a need for a safer place to call home was necessary. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Florida International University with a Bachelor of Fine Art. After graduation, she felt the need to understand the legal system, at which point she moved to Oklahoma City where she received her Juris Doctorate Degree. Her time in Oklahoma's legal world, opened her eyes to the realities of the broken American legal system as well as the immigration law system.
As a lawyer her impact was limited, at which point she decided to focus her energy on making art that brings light to those marginalized by the system, especially undocumented women and children.
Creating spaces where people have to address the subject matter of our failed legal system, was the first step on taking a move activist role. Making sure our communities have the necessary tools to defend themselves, became a priority in her work. Bringing, legal rights and artist workshop to communities at risk of abuse. She lives and works in NY.
