Nubian Heritage is the brainchild of two Harlem street vendors. In 1991, fresh out of college and without jobs, Richelieu Dennis and Nyema Tubman set out to bring the healing traditions of African Black Soap and Shea Butter to the community they loved. Nubian Heritage brings together traditional healing practices, cultural wisdom and indigenous ingredients, remixes them and creates modern wellness solutions for skin and hair. Our mission is to make cultural exchange the model for transforming the global community.
Nubian Heritage’s Community Commerce is dedicated to alleviating poverty in the communities that comprise our supply chain. By investing in 13 women’s Shea Butter cooperatives in Ghana, we don’t just buy their products — we help them develop self-sustaining businesses. We are working to create a safer, cleaner and more efficient workspace that allows workers to perfect the age-old art of producing traditional Shea Butter and modernizing aspects of the process by being energy efficient and reducing emissions.
