Tweets with a purpose

Let's talk about tweets. We write them, we RT them, we send them freely into the Twitterverse and we forget about them...but have you ever thought about the power of a tweet? What if we told you that your 140 characters had the power to provide safe drinking water to someone in Perú for 4 months? Would you tweet faster? More often? Tag your friends and ask them to join? Well, that's exactly what happened at the Clorox #ProyectoAguaSegura Bilingual Twitter Party - where more than 150 of our closest friends got together for a fun hour of tweeting and learning about the Clorox Company Safe Water Project. Proyecto Agua Segura's purpose is designed to address the chronic problem of unsafe drinking water in underprivileged populations, including Perú, where one in seven people do not have access to safe water. As a result, unsafe drinking water is a leading cause of illness, malnutrition and death for children.

The Twitter Party was a push to inform people that through the end of June, every tweet with #ProyectoAguaSegura triggers a $1 donation to the Clorox Safe Water Project, up to $20,000, to expand their presence in Peru. Each $1 donation provides one Peruvian with safe water for four months.

The hour-long Twitter Party included a moving conversation about creating awareness and the importance of teaching our children ways of conserving water. These are some of the things our #LatinaBloggers, hosts and attendees had to say.
